In Chinese culture, Lunar New Year is the most important and emotional time of the year, serving as a strong bond for the Chinese people. However, Nian, a celestial beast, dislikes the New Year. In an attempt to cancel the Spring Festival, Nian almost commits a serious mistake and has to go to the human world, where he develops a close bond with a little girl named Shaguo. Together, they embark on a series of adventures.
